Saipan

after i finished up in japan, i headed over to saipan to see what it was all about.  i didn't really know much about it when i booked the ticket, but it turned out pretty good & would have liked to spent more time there.  it was on the expensive side, and the US dollar is used since it is a US commonwealth.  it is part of the northern mariana island chain in micronesia near guam and was home to a famous battle in WWII.  it is mostly flocked by japanese & korean tourists and the locals are mostly natives or filipino.  just like most islands in the pacific, massage parlors are everywhere & the women are always hassling u for one.  it gets old.  let's get into some photos...

bonzai cliff near suicide cliff.  during the war, the japanese said they would not be japanese anymore if they were captured alive.  there was more honor in suicide, so soldiers & their families jumped off this cliff & the one below.  the japanese had taken over the island prior to wwII.

suicide cliff in the distance.

here is the last command post.

another view w/ a japanese tank.

japanese tank...

this is at the grotto...the water is awesome.

there are some military things tucked in the mountain & trees.  i like to think this is part of an underground tunnel system that goes to a main control center.  there was no sign that said that though.  (after walking into it, i noticed it could have been a barrack or storage place.  i was let down )

this was the view from my telly.

hey fishy fishy.

is this the dork fish mentioned in blue collar comedy tour?

it's got a madd scientist gap!

lotta fishies.

there was a passing rain, which came down quite furiously.

rain.

i almost forgot...i have a record in saipan now.  i was pulled over within my first 10 minutes in town & they said i have a record, so they next time i get a ticket they know who i am.  weak.  apparently i didn't merge quick enough & i got pulled over.  i was already driving anal-like when it came to speed since it was a small island town.  you know how some right lanes turn into righthand turn only lanes as they get to an intersection.  well they had one of these, not at a light mind you, and i apparently didn't get over quick enough before the turn.  oh well.

hotel was the hyatt & too expensive.  good location & nice though.
